The first gurdwara was built in Kartarpur, on the banks of Ravi River in the Punjab region by the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the year 1521. It now lies in the Narowal District of west Punjab (Pakistan).

A gurdwara ( ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ, gurduārāor,gurdwārā), the gateway to the guru, is the place of worship for Sikhs where prayers are conducted in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. People from all the faiths are welcomed in the Sikh Gurdwara. Sikh philosophy is:


Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar Mission was established in Lagos, Nigeria in the year 2012. Sangat assembles daily in the morning and evening for prayer in the Gurdwara. Special Kirtan programme is conducted on every Saturday evening followed by Guru ka Langer. Kirtan and Gurmukhi classes are also conducted in the Gurdwara.
